Statistics Canada raised annual production data of canola in 2007/08 unexpectedly last weekend(August 23 to 24), which caused great concern to the market, but the annual production data in 2008/09 has little changed.
Statistics Canada adjusted the canola production data in 2007/08 to 9.528 million tons from earlier expected 8.751 million tons. And canola production in 2008/09 is estimated at 10.375 million tons, compared with market expectations for 1010 - 1120 10,000 tons.
Statistics Canada reported Friday that Prairie farmers expect to produce 10.4 million tonnes of canola in 2008, up from the previous high of 9.4 million tonnes in 2007. In Ontario and Quebec, farmers expected a new high of 3.2 million tonnes of soybeans.
RBC Dominion Securities vice president Tony Tryhuk said that the current adjustment means that Canada canola supply will improve further in the future. The increase of canola production in 2007/8, leads to canola stocks increase in the ending of 2008, thus will increase the supply of canola in 2008/09 year.
Canola is also called Rapeseed in other countries. In fact, canola is the name for a group of rapeseed varieties. The rapeseed grown in the United States and Canada is accounted for canola mostly . Most of the canola oil consumed in the United States is imported from Canada. In early 1990s, canola have faced an uncertain future, when the product was seen as one that might join the so-called specialty oils market--longside such products as linseed oil, coconut oil, and walnut oil. Still, after by increasingly health-conscious food and edible oil industries, canola was sought in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It is because that Canola have low saturated fat content, which is the lowest among major vegetable oils.

Canola oil expeller is one of vegetable oil processing machinery special for canola production. It have the similar structure as Rapeseed oil mill. Since they have different oil content, after experiment, canola oil expeller is adjusted to realize best oil extraction rate and good reasult. The oil output rate is lower by rapeseed oil mill compared to canola oil expeller.
Canola was also likely to see increased industrial use as a key ingredient in soaps, detergents, lubricants, cosmetics, and confections. There is a genetically-engineered variety of canola called high-lauric acid canola was being produced. Lauric acid is only available from coconut or palm kernel oil previously.Canola meal, originally known as rape-seed meal, has similar nutritional qualities to soybean meal, and it is often used as a supplement for cattle feed.
