Canada Encourage Development of Cellulose Ethanol or New Generation Biodiesel Processing
8, September, 2008
"If you have new cellulose ethanol or technology on new generation of biodiesel processing, we hope that we can help you to be commercial." This is the voice from Canada Foundation for Sustainable Development of Technology (CFSDT). The Foundation issued an invitation on August 18, calling on the relevant units positive for the new generation of renewable fuels fund which equal to total 500 million U.S. dollars. It is said that the fund mainly to support enterprises to adopt advanced technology related to the building of a new generation of renewable fuels large-scale demonstration unit.
"Cellulose ethanol and bio-diesel is the development directionfor the new generation of bio-fuels in the future. Only use non-grain raw materials, that is to say biomass renewable energy, to produce bio-fuels that we can guarantee biofuels will not fight with people on the grain problem in the future." the chairman of CFSDT, Vicky Sharp said, "new generation of biofuels fund managed by the foundation aims to support such projects so as to push the new generation of cellulose ethanol and bio-diesel into the market as soon as possible , but also to ensure that Canada keep in the leading position in global renewable energy fuels field" .
The so-called new generation of biofuels is that take non-renewable raw materials such as municipal solid waste, biomass renewable enery such as agricultural and forestry waste, and various plants growth on the marginal land throughout the year as raw materials, through the application of the latest technology into the production of fuel.
It was precisely that convinced of importance of development of the new generation of biofuels, the Government of Canada advance the investment of 500 million U.S. dollars to set up a new generation of renewable fuels fund in the 2007 Budget , used to finance the building for commercialization unit of new biofuel. CFSDT is responsible for the management and operation of the fund. In September 2007, CFSDT launched this fund officially. Maybe because this fund is not quite understood, the units applied to the funds is not more.
It is reported that if biofuels plant meet the conditions, they can get as high as 40 percent of the funds for construction through the application for new generation of biofuels. The cost of the project can be completely compensated by the biofuels plant in 10 years in accordance with its specific situation of cash flow. The fund open throughout the year, which can apply at any time.
CFSDT stipulates, funds for a new generation of biofuels need to meet the following conditions: first, the built biofuels plant applied must have advanced technology of biodiesel processing, and can be mass production of biomass renewable energy of new generation; second, the biofuels plant should be built in Canada; third, raw materials used by the biofuels plant should be the biomass fuel in Canada; fourth, the biodiesel processing technology used in the biofuels plant has been proved feasible in the trial.
