Biomass Pellet Maker- Chipper
Wood Chippers/Shredders
If your use logs, branches or material with a diameter over 1 inch as raw material of biomass pellet maker, chippers or shredders are needed.
Chippers and shredders are used for size reduction of large diameter raw material before making pellets by your biomass pellet maker. For example logs and branches. Chippers generally reduce material to the size of chips; shredders can produce smaller particles.
There are two equipments you can choose before using your biomass pellet maker, chipper or shredder:
Chippers: The conventional chipper is a rotating disc with several blades attached to the surface. As the material comes into contact with the disc the blades shave off small sections (chips) until all the material is processed.
Shredders: Shredders push the material against a rotating roller with teeth. The teeth eat into the material and drag it against a screen. The size of the holes in the screen dictates the particle size.
So, in a word, if the raw material for your biomass pellet maker equipment has a diameter of over 1 inch, it is recommend using a chipper/shredder for initial size reduction. Chippers and shredders in many cases can be adjusted to give different particle sizes however they generally cannot reduce particle size sufficiently for pellet mills. Therefore in many cases after the chipper/shredder the material is sent into a hammer mill for final size reduction.
